the mountain

Ledges upon a mountain side
Milestones in the game of life
Some are placed by birthright
Some manage to climb

The view from a ledge is always down
Clouds cover the higher reaches
Obscuring the view for but a few
Who idly patrol its narrow sweep

The mountain maintains the source of strength
All bling and nonsense
Captivated by eternal charm
Do the masses trudge along

It becomes the aim of a man
To do unto others what others have done to him
Entitled by social cues
Like a hamster does he rule

A fool is caught in the sweeping tide
That laps at a ledge, maybe low, maybe high
The technique of gripping has not been mastered
He cares not for the thoughts of others

Open sky is all around
The goal is yours to set
When infinity is in your mind
Would you rather lap at a mountain ledge?
